Epicenter Design

This reading emphasizes the importance of the main idea of a website. I plan on making a video for my project and it’s easy to get caught up in the details of editing. Instead of thinking first about shot locations, editing techniques, etc. I have to think about the concept and go from there. The reading mentions how designers in the past would build the frame and then make the important stuff fit in that frame. In previous video projects, I’ve been guilty of doing this and trying to make my concept fit with the music or other details I already had in mind. I feel that sometimes it's easier to start with details when the concept/story is still unclear.

The key thing I took away from this reading is that it’s important to have a clear idea and then build around it. Also, focusing on the epicenter makes it easier to connect with the audience. If I have a clear idea in mind it’ll be easier for my audience to get the point of the video. No matter what the medium is, the epicenter should be at the forefront.
